YBN Round Up: 10 Talented Black Influencers With Under 10,000 Instagram Followers
While preparation and hard work are important to success, there is no denying the significant role that exposure and opportunity play in the process. As long as the creative industry has existed, the talents of Black artists have remained undiscovered because of the simple lack of exposure, and nothing has changed with the influencer industry. With so many changes to Instagram over the past few years, many influencers have scrambled to figure out the formula on “how to grow your followers on Instagram” among countless changes to the algorithm. Just a few days ago, Instagram Co-Founders (CEO Kevin Systrom and CTO Mike Krieger) announced that they are leaving the company, which they sold to Facebook six years ago. This news undoubtedly means more changes to the way influencers use Instagram and more challenges to the ability to grow a platform aka business.
While some brands are moving away from determining brand partnerships and opportunities by simply using an influencer’s follower count, it is unfortunately still a deciding factor for far too many brands. In addition, the lack of diversity and inclusion in the industry has further hindered the opportunity to exposure for many influencers. Fewer partnership opportunities = Fewer commercial opportunities (exposure to an audience outside your own). Simple math. While an influencer’s follower count gives you some metric, it cannot be used to measure the talent, hard work, and dedication of many Black creatives. This week, we’re sharing 10 talented Black influencers with under 10,000 followers who are doing amazing work.
